I am working on a computer and it will not boot up.

When I try to turn it on, it goes to the normal Windows XP Home Edition startup screen, then it asks me if I want to scan the FAT 32 file system for errors. If I let it go or press any key to cancel it, no matter what this message comes up:

STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure}
The registry cannot load the hive (file):
\SysytemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE
or its log or alternate
It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.

Beginning dump of physical memory
Dumping physical memory to disk: *Then it counts up to 100*

What is wrong and how can I fix this??

URGENT Help is Needed!!!

Thanks for anyone who knows this!!!!!! :D

I had this problem before it could be a failure windows does not know where to distribute the memory to, this happens alot with updated bios and not updated chipset drivers, try updating your chipset if you can

So what should I do if I can't even log on? How do I update my chipset? Bascially what I'm asking, is what did you do to fix it?

go to your bios see if you can reset it, then do that, what i HAD to do is reformat, i suggest calling yup your mobo manufacturer see what they say, but i do have a feeling you will need to format, but try the manufacturer first.

Okay, I tried to reset the BIOS....Nothing.
I put in the Windows XP Home Disk, booted from it, and pressed R to Repair. Does all this sound correct? After I am in the Repair screen (which seems like the Command Prompt) what am I supposed to do??

Or is there another way to repair Windows automatically without erasing the HDD?

Please Help...

I got the computer to atleast get past that screen and I can now log on. Although...explorer.exe does not start up with the computer. The only thing I can do is press Ctrl+Alt+Del, but when I try to run a new task and run explorer.exe it pops up in the processes for a second and then goes away. All I see is my desktop with no icons or start menu or anything.

How do you think I can get explorer.exe to run?

I got help from another site where somebody told me to just put the HDD in another computer.

I am copying all of the files right now to my good computer. Good thing it's only 15gb, I can burn that to 4 DVD's, no problem. Now all I gotta do is reformat and install all my shit again.

Thanks to everyone who helped me on this, I really appreciate the help. Seriously.
