Help needed with DDR Memory problem please

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum, and I was looking for any advice you might have please on a problem I have with a recently purchased memory card. I'll try to give as much of the details as I can but please ask me any questions you have if you think it could help in some way. So here goes, In December I purchased a DDR memory card from a website ( I won't say which one in case I'm not supposed to ) for my pc. The following description may be of some help, 1024DDR2700-N -- 1024MB DDR RAM PC2700 184-Pin DIMM 1. After the memory was placed in my pc I found that I was unable to load Windows (XP) correctly, I received an error message telling me that Windows had failed to load and that this was due to a system file error, I was given instructions to use the Windows XP set up cd to correct this through the repair function. I entered the set up cd which began to run only to stop mid way through checking my hardware configuration, I've tried this at least twenty times now with the same result. As soon as I remove the new memory and put the old one back in the computer loads without trouble. I contacted the website involved to see if they had any suggestions and was bluntly told to contact the pc manufacturer and check with them on my pc's compatibility information. I did this on Monday and I was informed that the computer should have no trouble with a memory card of this type. The website I bought the card from are now saying that they will give me store credit when I return the card but I don't know if that will be of any use as I'm unsure whether it would be wise for me to get the same memory again for fear that it I'll run in to the exact same problem again ( it's the only type of this memory in the size category I need available on the site) . I have also checked the maximum memory capacity of the computer in case this was the problem but according to the guide that is 2.6 GB's, so that shouldn't be an issue there as even if I leave in one of the old memory cards the total is still only 1.25 GB's. Anyway I thought I'd ask here if anyone encountered this type of issue before?, just in case I could have the issue resolved before I return the memory, is there anything you could suggest that I try?. Any advice at all would be gratefully received, thanks very much.
