Help needed with new build

Hi all,

Need your expert input, 2nd time builder, I'm hooked - however not an expert. I have $1k roughly to spend on a nice system excluding OS and monitor. I am looking to build a kickin fast PC for primarily photo/video editing and multitasking, spreadsheet and remote work. I'm not a gamer, and I do llike features and options as far as the mobo goes... any input is greatly appreciated. By the way, on my last build I set up 2 hard drives in RAID 0 for speed with a third for backup, that's the intention with this build as well. 10k drives don't seem to be worth the price with the 32mb cache 7200's in RAID 0. Thanks again. Also, I was planning on using the video cards built in video for now as it seems sufficient for my purposes at this time.

Dave

Thanks for the quick reply, I like the CPU suggestion... I do plan to use on board video for now, I would'nt be opposed to spending another 100-150 for a video card, but if this suits the needs for now I guess I'll save the cash.

I would change the Power Supply, will work if you decide to get a card later.

If you want a DirectX 11 card, around 150 bucks.

If you go for a video card change the board to this one and save a few bucks.

Another question

I have $1K max to spend, and am looking for a fast machine, question is: is the amd chip i selected (3.4GHz quad) a good choice? Or would I be better off selecting an Intel chip and why are the prices so much lower for AMD vs. Intel for 'equivalent' advertised quad 3.4GHz chips?

First of all, GHz doesn't mean anything when you compare two processors of a difference architecture. Some architectures are more efficient than others, and do more instructions per clock

For example, Core i5 and i7 with lower GHz is faster than PII 965BE (Though that doesn't mean that 965BE is slow)

Anyway if you decide to go with Intel I would suggest one of these combo deals

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.305921

Or for little more you can get this combo which has motherboard that support USB3.0 and SATA 6GB/s
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.309196

Unfortunately, is no motherboard with onboard video that supports i5. So, you have to buy a video card if you want to go with Intel

I would suggest HD5770 for video card, (you can also get HD5750 if you want something cheaper)
