I have a problem. I have a Pentium III with 701 MHz but lately it has dropped to 467. This happened after I rewired the hardware. I have no idea how to fix this cause i am a n00b :)

Alot of boards you press delete when its booting, find your FSB settings and it should be set at 100MHZ then exit and save settings. Sounds like its set at 66Mhz instead of 100Mhz. What do you mean you rewired the hardware

I can try the FBS.
I unplugged the harddrives and the CD-ROMS and plugged them in again in a different order.

I tried to change that but then after a while when the computer has beenactive for some time it starts to go slower and slower with random hack-ups.

Are you sure you hook everything back up right, master-slave on the drives, after you changed it did it show that it is 700mhz now

The thing is that I am not sure at all of what things are slave or master. I plugged in the things like i should but it didnt work so i plugged them in randomly until it worked :P

Don't underestimate the power of n00bs with hardware-I'v bee there. How old is your computer? First of all, do you mean your CPU is that fast, or yout RAM is that fast. Just in case, RAM is what your hard drive loads the data your currently using at the moment into.

On each ribbon cable if two drives are connected one has to be set as master and one slave, the pins are on the back of the drive, the harddrive needs to be master and the cd as slave

Yeah, i know. I followed instructions like that and i am pretty 99% sure i did it right with the jumper and all that (believe me i tried many different combinations when it didnt work)

yeah, its running. Isnt this the phenomena woch may appear when overclocking?
And if yes then it is wierd because i had that speed before without problems.

Look in the bios close to the FSB settings and see if there a divider setting, think it should be set at 3-2-1. FSB 100, AGP 66.6, PCI 33.3

now I changed the CPU operating MHz to 300(100), though there are lots of settings with (100) like 350(100) , 800(100) and so on...
