Hey guys just today my cousins gave me an early Christmas present of 100$ to help out on my build. EARLY PRESENT FTW

The current CPU that I plan to get is the phenom ii x4 965 BE

But I wanted to spend that extra money I got on a better CPU

Which CPU can I get with this extra money that is Pretty good for gaming.

Here is my current build: http://www.computerforum.com/198964-will-work-help-first-time-computer-build.html#post1660106

yes I updated everything and it is all up to date

THX IN ADVANCE:D

If your stll going with the AMD build. The Phenom II 1090. If you could hold off for a month or so Zambezi will be released.

zambezi is going to cost approximately 300$

To much for what I'm willing to spend

although the 1090 does looks nice

what I'm planning to do is get all the parts together and pay a bit off every month until i completely pay it off

and I save some money with the newegg preferred acount program If I order before august 31'st

no, it is 300 for their top of the line 8 core edition, there is a 4 core that will be 190 and i highly doubt any company would release a quad at the same price as their 6-cores without a good performance boost, and there will also be a 6 core i'm guessing for around 240, then the normall 8 core for closer to 290 i'd say, but there is no official prices out, this is just my speculation, but the 190 is the general price speculated for 4 cores. also you could get a phenom ii 955 for the time being and then upgrade to the bulldozer in a few months or whenever.

I don't plan on buying the bulldoazer until later on when I need to.

If its just going to be released In a few months then that doesn't mean that my cpu won't preform well If I buy the 1090t I probably shouldn't have to worry about buying another CPU for a while

also true, but i would like to add if you are only using this for gaming then almost nothing uses more than 4 cores, but if you want the 1090t is still a great cpu.

I have a question.

It says that the 1090t runs at 3.2ghz but the 965 runs at 3.4ghz

is the 1090t faster or slower?

They are both unlocked, but in general the 1090 will overclock alittle better. At the (same mhz) they would perform the same unless something is using more then 4 threads.

ah then I'd realy be saving my money by going with a quad core.

are there any other AMD quad cores that Run pretty fast that'll be around this price???

Yeah, I would just get a quad. Well, there is the 955 and 965, both clock the same so the 955 is the better deal. Now the 970/975 and 980 are from better yield cores and will clock in general alittle better (couple 100 mhz.) Money wise and performance, the 955 or 970

as far as i know, windows can assign tasks to any one core of a six core processor. so four can be loaded down by a game, and a 2-thread video decoder can run as well without interruption. this is of course speculation though, and another member can confirm whether im full of smoke or not.

there won't be a difference, in reallity the majority of games only use 2 cores, a percentage use 4, and almost none use more than 4, it should get the same performance out of the 4 and sometimes better, i read somewhere the 4's and 6's use the same part and this can cause a bottleneck in some tasks.

i understand games will only use a few cores, but my understanding was programs can access any of the six cores depending on which ones are already under load.

Like said, more than 4 cores is overkill for most users, especially for gaming. I just got my 965 BE and I love it, great OC chip. Got mine to 4GHz(haven't really tried to go any higher) without any stability issues what so ever. With my 965 I have no issues running a game, decoding, playing music and more at the same time.

I was in the same boat as you,I was torn between a 4 and 6 core, and all the research I did pointed towards a 4 core being the better choice, unless you're actually utilizing more than 4 cores. Ultimately it came down to me wanting to upgrade down the road and the 965BE was cheap enough to be a filler for me until next year and even then I'll probably just stick with their best 4 core.
