Whoa, that's a lot on one plate. Well how's about a Desktop Replacement Laptop? Something that you can game on and do graphics on and don't have to be strapped to a wall?

I'd say an Asus Z81SP, it's got an NVidia 6800 on it. If you dont want something as clunky, I use the Asus Z70VA on a daily basis, it's got an ATI X700, 4 speakers, and probably the best matte screen on the market. I do a lot of graphics on it, I've worked at a commercial printer for over 6 years and been in design for over 15. The wide desktop is perfect. Also to give you a idea on the power of the X700, you can play, Doom3, HL2, COD2 and FEAR at max settings. The Nvidia Go6800 is more powerful than the X700, but it comes in a bigger chassis on the Z81SP. I guess the GPU gets super hot on that one.

There are other systems that have the x700 also. There's the Acer Ferrari, Acer Travelmate, Sony AX570, MSI 1029, Compaq V4000, Gateway nx850, and the Asus Z83V (17").

The Nvidia 6800 is a very powerful card, manufacturers usually cant fit that sucker into anything smaller than a 17" beast, but Asus was the only one that did it in a 15.4" chasis.

if you dont want a destop replacement laptop, then i would suggest that you build a pc from scratch instead of buying pre-built.(that is what i gather for your post.) if you dont know how to do it, then this is gonna pose a little bit of a problem for you then........but dont worry, that is what cf is here for:). you should be able to save a little money that way and maybe put that into a better system or to your laptop.

Wow this is great!! I like the sony ax570 as well as asus z83v... and there is one asus that i just saw... it was w2v is damn cool. Do you guys reckon I should get a Pc or a laptop?? i am not sure how long can a laptop last if i keep working on it for more than 13 hours each day including gaming and stuff.

shupola... i like that laptop too... but i think the specs are pretty small for the harddisk and stuff.... I definitely need bigger than that...

anyway, what do you guys reckon for building a PC?? I was planning to do that as well.... PC has varieties of options to choose from... and they have millions of brands and models that can be built together... SO can anyone help me if I am to build a PC??
Same thing... motherboard brand and stuff like that..
Definitely I would like the best motherboard so that I can upgrade it to the next level easily without needing me to change the motherboard anymore...
which one do you guys think is more worth?? interms of price and performance!!!??
LaptopExtreme... i am really considering those options... they are really cool....
Cheers guys....

Well all the Asus Ensemble line comes with a full 2 Year Global Warranty. So if your traveling the world, you can get it serviced with no problems. That W2V is the Flag ship of Asus notebooks, people requested a PC version of the Apple's Powerbook and Asus did it. Some people don't know that Asus has been a long time ODM (original design manufacturer) maker of laptops for the likes of Sony and Apple for quite some time now. You'd imagine the effort they'd put into their own products. On a side note, did you know that Asus was the manufacturer of the PS2?
As for laptops (in general) being reliable for daily tasks. Yes, they're very reliable and many will have 1 year warranties standard. I'm on laptops all day, I think they're easier on the eyes too. They also suck up less electricity too than a desktop and a fat monitor. I've seen laptops surpassing sales of desktops since the middle of 2005, due to portability. You'll see that the laptops are getting more & more affordable and no one really wants to be strapped down anymore. Just like cell phones have gotten more and more popular. I'm sure many parents, even grandparents, are sporting around cell phones nowadays.

As for PC building, I'd go with an Asus board. Not because I'm a supporter of Asus, but you have to admit, they're the "world's best motherboard maker". Their graphic cards are pretty good too. If you want to go budget, I don't see why not? I've never had a problem with Soyo or MSI in the past. Built a couple ECS's a while back, too. I haven't done anything recently though, because I'm on laptops nowadays. ;)

I was looking at some webs about the mini tower case and stuff...it was pretty cool. I was after the terminator and i was after xpc shuttle sb81p. It was really cool and small. and it has low level of noise as well. I agree with you.. Asus simply makes the best motherboards in the world. If I am going for a PC, i will be going for P4 instead of AMD, so I wouldnt be getting MSI definitely. Because this computer will mainly be used for work instead of gaming.

Hey, you know that I have this toshiba m35-s359 2 years back... and it starts to sound noisy coz i have been using it for too long... will it be the same thing as asus laptop as well?? I dont want a laptop to be noisy ...especially when you go to a quiet classroom or something... it will be horrible to have irritating noise from my laptop... well i have been using my laptop for the past 2 years and most of the times i work on it more than 12 hoours a day... so I am not sure whether it is the same for every laptop or is it for mine only?

This is the problem that i am trying to avoid because i want a laptop that can last me for a long time... especially when I am still a student and I will be doing my master as well.. so i wont be working much to change a laptop all the time... the opportunity that I have now is that my sister is going overseas to study and my parents will pay 3/4 of the price of the new laptop/pc while my sister have my old laptop.

It's the same with any laptop or desktop. I you're going to use it on a daily basis, you'll need to maintain it. Now aside from keeping up to date and virus/adware free, there are other maintainence that can be done too. Like dust, fans (laptop, desktop or house fans) will accumulate build up, thus making it harder to spin or causing it vibrate or make noise when spinning. It's always good to blow off some of the dust on the laptop or the insides of a desktop, even the back of the desktop too. Powersupplies gather dust on the vent holes the same way. An occasionally cleaning wouldnt hurt. Sometimes a fan on a case or cpu may really be old or used up, it wouldnt hurt to get a new fan here and there if you've been using it every day for a few years now.

As for gaming, if you're doing any intensive stuff on your computer, it will heat up more, thus making your fans kick on high. Also if your vents are clogged, it'll be doing the same because of heat. When ever I play a game like Doom3 or FEAR, the fans are running pretty high, but once I get out of the game, the fan automatically shifts gears to a lower setting and is much more quiet. So as long as you're not gaming in class, I'm sure you wont have too much fan noise.

Just wanted to clarify or edit, that Asus changed their Ensemble line warranty- it has been switched to 1 Year Global Warranty now as of November of 2005, but we had a special deal with our supplier to upkeep our warranties til the end of 2005, so any one who bought an Ensemble from us in the year of 2005 are covered with the 2 year standard. Just FYI, Thanks. :D
