A long time ago i built a top of the line intel 2.8 cpu. this was before the dual core ever came out. At the time it was top of the line. Now 37 years later it is old and starting to act up due to being a senior citizen. I am looking to upgrade. My budget is $200 for the board and cpu only. I dont have to spend that much though if there is not a big performance boost to that. I do some video editing and no gaming. I have been out of the harware loop for a while so not sure what is the best to get now. thanks for your help

how much better would this be than something that i can build for say $150. is it worth the upgrade to spend 200 over 150? thanks

Can you post what you have now? It will be pretty hard to find a board and CPU that is more current and supports your older hardware. Like daisy said, you will probaly need to get new RAM as well.

i have an old 2.8 intel single core. it is pretty old. I am not opposed to just building a new cpu so i am not worried about things meshing with my old parts. I am looking to spend 150-200 on just a cpu and board. While i am sure the parets posted earlier are great I just want to know if they are much better than something i oculd get for 150. Is it worth the extra $50? thanks

If your old ram is not compatible with a newer board and cpu, you might have to fork out a few extra $ for a gig or 2.
