Hi guys

Im having a problem with the speed of my pc, well more like the lack of it.

After a re-install of windows it just stopped being fast.

Its when i play games like BF2 that i notice a big change when loading the maps, which i did fast enough to be among the first players on the map.
Now it takes 3-5 min and im one of the last to enter.

When i bought the pc a friend bought 1 just like it and his still flys through the loade time.

I also get lag in game when i turn and that never happend before.

Hope some of you can help me out, thanks.

Ooh and first post :)

yes i have...more than once :(

I also did a new reinstall, after the one that messed it up, to see if it had anything to do with windows but it did not help.

why did you reformat to begin with? Was it starting to mess up or something? Could maybe be hardware related

Vampiric Rouge: Yes i did a reformat.

liuliuboy: Yes i made a cd with all the drivers i used at the time.i did not upgrade any of them to begin with.

suprasteve: It was getting a little slower but not even close to what it was/is after the reformat.

Maybe your paging file (virtual memory) is too low, if you had it set to a good amount before you re-installed windows XP, this could be why it was faster. BF2 uses a LOT of memory and paging file. Try increasing that.

right-click on My Computer> properties > advanced > under peformance > click settings > there should be a virtual memory or paging file setting there. ramp it up to about 1512 MB thats prolly too much but try it and see anyways make the initial AND maximum size the same to avoid fragmentation. Sorry i couldn't be more specific on the location of the paging file but im on a Win 2000 machine...

Ok ill change it to 1512 and give it a try.

The setting was 2MB to begin with but it recomended 3070 even when it says 2MB is max ??

I changed it and played bf2 a little but it did not help :(

And a thing i forgot to mention is that the small fan on the motherboard (What part is it for ??) started making more noise at about the same time as the speed loss...can that have anything to do with it ??

it could be causing problems. A fan that just starts making noise is usually a sign that its going to fail and you should replace it. If the dying fan is going slow, the heat could build up and cause slowdowns.
