Help Please!! File ntfs.sys caused an unexpected error.....

Hi there,

I run into a problem with my old desktop. The registry got all messed up because of viruses and other things. I decided to uninstalled everything to start with a clean install. Unfortunately the HD has crashed baddly. XP Home doesn't start. When I use the boot discs to reformat the HD I get a message in the 5th disc that says:

File ntfs.sys caused an unexpected error (4107) at line 5010 in d:\xpclient\base\boot\ setup\setup.c. ...... press any key to continue.

Then I have to turn off the PC and start again. I tried this situation many times without improvements. Additionally, I used 2 different copies of the bootable discs and nothing. Also I removed the plugs from the DVD burner I recently installed. No changes. There are 2 things I haven't tried: 1] remove one 512 MB memory card 2] remove the USB 2.0 PCI Card.

I would trully appreciate any kind of assistance with this challenge.

I slaved the HD to be formatted in a different PC. It worked well. The Desktop I used inmediately recognized the HD. My old info was still there. I reformatted the HD and worked well in that PC. It didn't work in mine. At least now it doesn't recognize any info in the HD. But when I try to boot the system with the floppies, it gives me the same message in the 5th disc.

I double checked the memory. The new stick is 512MB PC2100 266MHZ CL 2.5, but it should have been 512MB PC2100 133 CL 2.0 like the original that came with the system. I'm wondering at this point if the mother board or the CPU got fried. I also put back all the original hardware the PC came with.

Tomorrow I'm planning to install windows XP in the HD I got using a different computer, then, put it back in mine. I hope that wouldn't create a problem with the other PC.

I'm not hopeless but extremely frustrated with this situation.
