I have a Hp Media Center m7334n computer that had the motherboard go out on it, I am looking to just replace the motherboard, cpu and ram the typical stuff but i was wondering about what motherboard is going to work with it the best. Any ideas? AMD or intel is fine with me just cheap and something that will work great

You need one that is compatible with the hardware that was running on it. CPU and RAM wise.

It's probably going to be less time consuming and costly to just sell off the remaining parts and build a cheap AMD dual core rig.

i was planning on putting new ram and cpu in it as well. Its for a friend of mine and they dont want to buy a new computer at the moment. I have been looking on newegg at cpu/motherboard combos and they are fairly cheap.

Here is a warning. You may have to jury rig your case or you may not even be able to get a new power supply and motherboard in your case. You may have to also buy a new case.

Definitely replace your power supply as well. I can assure you the power supply that you presently have is low quality junk if Hewlett Packard put it in there.

I am trying to avoid buying new case as well. I am really trying to keep this as cheap as possible for her. Unless you know of a really cheap case?

The least expensive cases I have seen are around $50. You may also need to buy another DVD drive since the motherboard I recommended only has one IDE port. You will need a Serial ATA DVD drive. IDE devices are going away and being replaced by Serial ATA.

This might be starting to get too expensive for her. I will have to talk to her, she really only wanted to replace the necessary items to get it working again.

The most expensive item is the Windows installation disk. If you want to go Linux Ubuntu 10.04 or if you can find another Windows installation disk that will knock $100 of the cost.

I already have the windows install discs I own them all already, thats not the issue, its all the new parts. She is on a real tight budget and didnt want to be buying a new computer. Just making her old one work again, which the motherboard is shot.

Tough. Her motherboard is blown so she will have to buy components that support the new motherboard. First of all you said you were looking for CPU ram and a motherboard now you are saying she doesn't want to pay for 'all the new parts'.

Just stick a cheap crappy Celeron and some high latency ddr2 ram if your friend is concerned about cost.

no no no cpu ram and motherboard is cool those parts are cheap, she isnt looking for a new case and new os and all that for a brand new computer. If she wanted that I would have just tossed her old computer in the trash from the get go and put together a decent amd build.

OK.

How much do u have to spend? I am from the UK but will try and find something within dollar budget

I am talking to her hopefully today or tomorrow to see what her plan is. I am trying to convince her to spend a little more and let me do a new build for her. Once I get a final budget I will let you know. But I have a feeling this will be a very low budget build

If she doesn't replace the power supply she will likely fry her new motherboard again. My guess is the motherboard got toasted by the old garbage power supply she presently owns. Original Equipment Manufacturers really do their customers bad service by using such bad power supplies.
