Hey!
Right basically we have a problem with our internet. It will go fast the stop completely go fast then stop and then stay stable for an hour and then stop completely. I then go to the server room turn the server routers(switchs i think) and internet adsl hubs and also internet line coupler (takes 3 lines and makes it into one "fast" one)
The guy that installed all this stuff keeps blaming it on this that and the other as usually and I don't think he knows what hes doing or has lost track! I have alot of computer knowledge but not so much network knowledge so go easy lol.
I thought that basically the stuff is to old and is getting clogged up as it can't cope with the demand we need on it. So what I did was got an old netgear adsl to ethernet hub and plugged it in without going through all the hubs firewalls routers switches servers etc and sure enough my dads computer goes like the clappers!
So do you think it is just the amount of stuff that is in there is clogging up and can't cope any more and is then just dying?
Now how hard is a broadband coupler to setup? with a bit of reading could i set it up as im sick of trying to say download a song off itunes or a film from itunes and it drops after about an hour and everyones moaning at me (its my families company and internet is heck of alot faster lol)
I don't think we'd need the server either. Would i need a hardware firewall or would a software one be surfice?
Many thanks
Joe
