Help please, windows reboot problem and bsod

Last night i was surfing the internet and all of a sudden my computer rebooted, got to the windows xp screen, rebooted again....over and over. I disabled the automatic reboot and was able to see the bsod and stop error.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

***STOP: 0x0000000A (0x00000000, 0x0000001C, 0x00000001, 0x804FB03C)

Last night i was not able to get it to boot at all, using safe mode, last known good config, normal startup. I went into the recovery console and ran CHKDSK /r and still got nothing. Today i started trying other options and when i chose debugging mode it booted up just fine, except now windows tells me it is not activated and i have 3 days to do so. (i'll deal with that later) It also told me to reinstall soundmax. My comp was hit by lightning acouple months ago and i had to swap the mobo, but i swapped in an exact match to the one i already had. Last night i did swap the bios chip from the old mobo into the new one, could this affect the windows activation?

My main question really, is it ok to stay in debugging mode? Can i still do everything as i would in normal mode, such as get on the internet and all? I am posting this from my phone and it would be much easier to research and look up answers from my pc. Thanks

also i will add that my computer did not come with a windows install disc or anything. I believe my problems to be virus/spyware related and am currently scanning everything. Also plan to back everything up and do a fresh install of xp once i can get an install disc.

the problems began before i changed the bios chip, and everything has ran fine while in debugging mode. I believe a virus or spyware has changed something in the boot sequence but ive yet to narrow it down. I have a new hard drive and fresh copy of windows on the way, until then i'll just leave it in debugging mode i guess. Thanks

Please click: Start > Run > %windir%\Minidump
When the folder opens, locate any recent Minidump files > Zip it up > and attach it (

there are only 2 that appear in the folder, both over 2 years old, from June 22nd, 2007. Ive had the computer on since sunday night and it hasnt rebooted itself again since then, however I am also still running it in debugging mode and it still wont boot normally. Ive ran avast, malwarebytes antimalware, spybot, adaware, superantispyware, and hijackthis....none of which have came up with anything.

You can delete those two old Minidumps, I don't require them

Please download > Combofix
Disable your Antivirus real protection (if possible) or just "allow" Combofix to scan and move any found Malwares itself

Run Combofix
Combofix will scan your system (approx 10mins) and then provide a log at the end of the scan
Save this log (I usually save to Desktop)
Then create a new reply and attach the log, using the attach button >
attach.gif
On the new reply toolbar

Note: I'm signing off for the day, in about 30mins max

how long does combofix usually take to run? I know it says 10 minutes, but I tried running it last night, it ran for about 30 minutes before I ended up closing it. I tried again today and let it run for just over an hour and still nothing. Both times after closing it, ive had to reboot my computer in order to gain access to the internet again. Is it supposed to close down firefox, instant messengers, etc... when you run it?

On another note, my hard drive and xp disc will be here thursday, so if i get time this weekend i'll be installing xp on the new drive and booting from that. Would like to get this problem fixed mainly out of curiousity.

I'm back on :)

Please go to Safe Mode
Safe Mode is accessed by pressing F8 key before Windows Startup
Then selecting your installed Windows OS, then selecting "Safe Mode"
Log into your Administrator account

In Safe Mode, locate the downloaded Combofix (by the way you could just copy Combofix to C:\ to find it easier later on)

Run Combofix, it should take 5 to 10 mins Max.

as stated previously, windows will only boot into debugging mode. normal, safe mode, etc only cause the reboot loop after it gets to the windows xp splash screen

Sorry I mean go to: "debugging mode" and run Combofix (but that's your point....)

ok, here's another good tool:
Download this tool: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/XP_FixLogon.zip
This utility checks for the correct GINA value in the Registry and will allow you to restore it, if its incorrect.

downloaded, started it, and get this:

Default Gina in use.
DLL in use: MSGINA.DLL (standard)

only gives me the option to exit, not repair

Start > Run > rundll32.exe syssetup,SetupOobeBnk
Restart

Warning: This may de-activate an already activated Windows XP
But I'd say give it a go on yours (I would)

Actually you may need to go to a command line and do it (start > run > cmd)
Note: after running it, nothing will show (ie no result)
Just restart
