HI Guys;i just joined here first of all my greetings for everybody here at Computerforums;

i need some help here i have my Sony vaio vgn A-195EP with a problem, it started to shutting down every 5 minutes after i turned it on i thought that i would resolve the issue with factory recoverybut no avail it doesn't shut off during the #1 CD but only, but it shuts off after the #2 Cd the Utilities, i have a hard time to complete recovery cause it keeps shutting down,

i took out the screws on the botom so i can get to the Fan or CPU and the second slot of Mem Ram, but i don't know how to take out the keyboard so i can see if there is dust on the fan or the CPU need some heat sink compound,anybody here is familiar with sony Vaio VGN A-195EP with OS Windows XP sp2 please tell me how to take out the keyboard,
or if you guys think that there is other problems that i can solve i would apreciate.

That would be the driver for the lan connection. If its shutting down then there a few reasons for it.

1. overheating
2. Faulty hardware - Could be any number of items.

I would first test the hard drive to make sure its good. What brand of hard drive is in it?

thanks jhonb35:i don't know what brand of Hard drive it is! i know that is a pent processor 1.6 with 1g mem hard drive 60 gb,that's why i ask for hepl cause i need to get access to the hard drive but i need to take out the keyboard in order to get the inside of it. apreciate

Is it still within warranty period? If so, send it in to get repaired. Sometimes in the bios it will list the model number of the hard drive. We can figure out the brand from that and have you make a bootable diagnostic cd to test the hard drive.

Thanks jhonb35, i could open on the side and have a pick inside and could reed it's a Hitachi TravelStar 60Gb

also i took out the batery
cause it is drained dead

Yeah, I'd also say its overheating, but an unapproved HDD replacement could do it. Microsoft doesn't want anyone being overcharged for repairs unless they get to do the over-charging.

Uh...what? That makes no sense. You don't need approval from Microsoft to fix a computer.

Just open the access door on the bottom (assuming there is one) and take out the heatsink. That's the biggest culprit of dust in a laptop. Just be sure to clean off the old thermal paste and apply new paste.

What door you talking about? the only doors i see are the battery door the mem ram #1 slot there is slot #2 on the inside and for that one needs to take out the keyboard and to gain access to the CPU HDD and FAN, how to take out the keyboard is what i was asking here but seems to me nobody knows how on this sony vgnA195EP to gain access to the inside i have to take out some key caps to take out a couple screws,i don't want to brake the key caps.If somebody knows please help i'll apreciate

According to this link, getting to the hard drive is a pain in the neck.

http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/3589-has-anyone-replaced-a190-hd.html

It's for an A190 but should be similar to yours. You may want to take this in to get diagnosed and let them tear it apart if need be.

Thanks jhon; that's a great help,but it stil doesnt say how to remove the keyboard,
that's my problem removing the keyboard without breaiking the key pads.

He's Quoted;
Remove the keyboard. There are two more screws underneath. Remove the broad touchpad cable (carefully!) and the one for the buttons underneath the F1 key. Lift the cover, There are five hinges close to the display that will make a scary noise :-)

There are probably some screws on the bottom of the laptop and/or under the top bezel (if it's removable. I don't know.) Or there is a line of retaining clips you just need to push in at the top.

Thanks i was able to take out the keyboard and top cover and gain access to everything HHD, Fan and everything else,i did not see any termal paste
i see a kind foam tape under the CPU between the heat sink and the cpu and everything looks clean including the fan,
i beleive more that my problem is the hard drive rather anything else,i also discard the mem ram i had the old original 500Mb and swaped same efect.

one thing that i noticed though was i used the power supply strait from the wall outlet rather then using a protector strip, and it lasts longer before it shuts down,
i don't think this laptop is worth it to get a new hard drive, then need the win xp install cd that i don't have,i will throw the towel on this one. thank you guys anyway for trying to help.

Hi guys; it´s me again and this time with good news,my vaio A-195EP it´s up and running again,cross my fingers, after pulling my hair,almost had it sent to the dempster, what i did,don´t ask me cause not sure, most nothing besides downloading all windows updates,without it being shutting down, including Sp3 and all new drivers and using wireless card,which i had a hard time to configure, instead of through the wire card connection, which i suspect is the fault one? in conjunction of moving the laptop to a different power strip,
now it runs like a champ,also took out the battery cause it´s dead can´t hold the charge no more. To tell you the truth this computer stuff is hard when it comes to software and hard ware problems,but this is the way one learns much, specially if you´re like me with no schooling in computers at all,all i know has been learned the hard way, and by myself.
