help please

hey so i just ordered all my parts from new egg and i assembled it all and plugged in everything but for some reason after i turn it on for about 5 second its turn off. anyone might know why?
 
Without knowing exactly what you have in this computer i would suggest running the computer with only the bare essentials. Dont connect the CD/DVD ROM, extra video, sound, or any other accessories. Also assure that there are no USB accessories connected to the computer. I would also suggest starting over, and going slow. Make sure all of your connectors are seated properly and everything is plugged in where it is supposed to be plugged in. Also assure that your HDD is set as Master with no slave present. Those jumpers will get ya. Hope this helps.
 
alright thanks i did that and it finaly stays on for however long but when i put the disk in to boot up windows it flashes like 3 pages of information really fast then go's to another screen and sais [DR-DOS] A:\> then whenever i type something in it sais file not found
 
Hmm. Ok, well, all i can think of make sure that you have all of your cables plugged in properly. Hopfully you are running only the minimum equipment. It is a brand new hard drive right? If you have Windows Live Messenger talk to me at [email protected].
 
Is your mobo working properly? can you get into the bios and all that stuff? if your mobo is working properly...try swapping stuff to eliminate what the problem could be. If you have spare ram put that in instead of what you have. if you have 2 chips in, take one out. if you have a spare CD-ROM use that. You get the idea. Anything you can do to eliminate the problem. After you get things squared away and it works, then add things one at a time to see if it works. You should be able to figure it out that way.
 
i cant get into anything so im gonna borrow a cd drive tomorow and see if thats whats up or if its the mobo. thanks for the advice. ill post more tomorow about it
 
ok so i think its a short because i was able to get to the bios and i changed it so the cd drive was the first boot but after a short time it turns off. i put in the mothboard cd to see if it would work and it loaded it and started running it but then again it turned off. or could it maybe be a faulty mobo? is that even likely
