I have a Dell computer and it has been acting weird for quite some time. i don't have the system disk or whatever that they should send with the computer, all I want to do is put the computer back to the way it was when I got it from dell if that is not possible I am thinking of maybe wiping the hard drive and purchasing a new windows OS and installing it. is it possible to do this? can i just format the hd and then install windows? please help thank you.

Sometimes OEM computers come with a small recovery partition. This allows you to restore your pc to the original purchased state.
When your computer is starting up, look for the splash screen and "Press F10 for recovery" or such. Not all pc's come with this however.
You can install your own version of Windows if you like, but make sure you go to the Dell website and find all the necessary drivers first.
