I recently got my computer fixed, and I posted on here about a new one I'm getting, but I decided to fix my old one. I'm not really sure abouts facts, but I'm asking if the components I'm buying for it good for just gaming.

I'm getting these components:

Video Card: VisionTek 900254 Radeon HD 4650 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card

RAM: I'm not sure what the computers intial RAM was, but I'm getting two 1 GB cards for it.

I'm wondering if this will be enough for medium/hardcore gaming.

What are the rest of you specs? Even with that, hardcore gaming, def not. medium, all depends on your cpu and intial ram amount. I have 4GB RAM, 8600GTS, and the Athlon 64X2 5200+ (2.7 dual core), and I do mostly medium gaming, nothing hardcore though.

I kinda exaggereated the hardcore gaming, I may only play like 2-3 games.

I went on the Dell website and it said 256.0 MB / 1.0 GB (max).

If the spec sheet for your computer says 1GB max, you have an old computer. You might run into issues with the strength of the power supply and many other issues.

Please tell us the exact make and model number of your computer. That way we can find all the specs and give you a better answer:D

Some/Most games heavily depend on RAM, CPU, PSU, GPU. When you ask a question like this, we need to know a little more information. For example:

CPU (Processor)
Mainboard/PCI-E 2.0 slots x?
PSU (power supply)
RAM

These are the components that your computer needs to have upgraded for gaming. Some games rely on them more than others. Even if you buy a very nice graphics card, you have to think "Will it work well with my mainboard?" or "Will my Power Supply be enough for this?"

If you want to game, or even have your pc running at full power, you don't want anything bottle-necking it. Even if you have two nvidia 9800 GTX's, they won't run right if you have a 525watt power supply. Same thing goes if you don't have a pci express 2.0 slot in your mainboard, but you have a card capable of 2.0.

CPU: 2.40GHz

PSU: I believe 250 watt.

RAM: It's original RAM was 1GB max, and I'm getting two 1 GB RAM sticks.

I'm not sure about the mainboard.

1gb max means your computer cannot use more than 1gb, so 2gb is useless. You may run into power issues with that PSU and a modern GPU, and you may not even have a PCI 2.0 x16 slot =(

I would not spend more than $100us on upgrades for this comp. If you max out all its possibilities it will still be an old, slow machine. It may be fast enough for what you want it for but there is no reason to spend more than 100$ on it.

Sooooo, what your saying is the two 1 GB, 80$, sticks I just bought and are beign shipped now will be useless?

Maximum memory for a Dell™ Dimension™ 3000 is 2 GB (2x 1GB).

What RAM did you purchase exactly?

That computer only has PCI connector for aftermarket graphics, so
I hope you haven't already purchased the Radeon HD 4650, because
you will not be able to use it.
