Help Please

I have an HP Pavillion a420n desktop computer. Recently, my computer has restarted itself and I got an error saying system boot disk error. Press enter to reboot. So i rebooted and the hdd led turned on and stayed on. I can't see anything on the screen but the computer is on. I have tried my video card and the onboard video. I have also tried another monitor. My setup is:

ASUS A7V8X motherboard
Athlon xp 3000+ processor
Maxtor Diamond Series 160gb SATA HDD
HP CD Writer
HP DVD-ROM
Stock PSU (250 volts)
ATI Radeon 9600 SE

do you have another HD you can try.
Also try reinstalling the primary IDE cable (the one to the HD)
 
Thanks to anyone who replied, I just got it fixed. I guess it was something wrong with my video card, fortunately my dad works around computers so he knew what was wrong. I just took out the video card and am using the onboard video and it's working fine. THANKS
