Help please

Hi, unfortunately the other day my old laptop decided to give up.. so I have been given a second hand laptop that seems to work fine except for one thing. It connects to the wifi fine and gets 54.0mbps when it connects ( i have it right next to a booster) but it seems to drop to around 5.5 or 1mbps after a while and then sometimes goes back upto 54.0mbps. If i click repair it will always go back to the 54.0mps. It's getting really annoying because it does it often so can't even stream half an hour program without it messing up. My last laptop (that broke) got 54.0mbps all the time (unless i moved it around the house) and didn't have this problem. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might be happening and how to solve it??

You can try updating the wireless driver. How old is this laptop? The card just could be going out on it.
