Hi,

I was recently using my Fathers desktop computer to make some downloads.. I downloaded a pretty nasty virus which shut his computer down everytime I opened Firefox or Explorer.. He has gone away for the week.. So I decided to reformat the whole comp.. I have cleaned both drives..

The installation seemed like a sucess until I tried opening sound files and I got these messages... 'SOUND RECORDER CANNOT PLAY AS NO SOUND DEVICE IS INSTALLED'..... 'THERE ARE NO ACTIVE MIXER DEVICES AVAILABLE... and so on..

Then I tried connecting his internet back up again.. But the computer would not recognize the Ethernet connection.. however it does with USB which is how I am online...

I spoke to a chap on the phone yesterday and he thinks that my motherboard needs installing as when I get in to device manager I have as follows

?!!! CIF SINGLE CHIP
?!!! MULTIMEDIA AUDIO CONTROLLER
?!!! MULTIMEDIA CONTROLLER
?!!! OTHER PCI BRIDGE DEVICE
?!!! PCI INPUT DEVICE
?!!! SM BUS CONTROLLER

I really do not know how to fix this problem on my own... So pleeaassee could someone help me to get things back on track... He is back on Friday... I would take it to the shop but they wanted $ 150 and I am pennyless...

Tx in advance to anyone who can help.. I shall keep checking this post throughout the day...

Daniel..

What kind of motherboard is it? You can find pretty much any driver on the motherboards website.

run windows update and look for drivers in there. also if its a dell or hp see if there was a disc that says applications and drivers cd and run it

all you have to do is crack open ur dads computer, look at the brand name and model of the motherboard, and go to the manufacturers website.
