Hey all, I`m new to this forum so hi to everyone but obviously I`m here because I have a problem and I`m not too clued up when it comes to PC`s.

I recently installed Half Life 2 and was recieving a blue crash screen on loading with all kinds of errors and after rebooting the error report showed a problem with my graphics card driver(something which is new to me). Anyway I went to nvidia and downloaded the latest driver and hence the game worked.

My problem is now that my adaptor is only showing as 128mb when my graphics card is 256mb. My card is a nvidia GeForce 6200LE.(I also have 1024mb ram)

I`ve just installed Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and its playing jerky as hell, its unplayable even after lowering all the video settings and its driving me crazy!

Sorry to ramble on but this is all new to me and its one hell of a learning curve!

Thanks all

Your video card only shows 128 mb of memory because its probably running turbocache, which basicly leaches the other 128 mb of memory off of your system memory.

As for GRAW, yes, its probably because that card definetly isn't for gaming.

So does that mean my card is still running as normal and it just shows different?

Sorry for being such a basic but you gotta learn somewhere!

Cheers

Yeah its running fine, its just showing 128 mb because thats how much its got onboard the video card, the rest comes from the system RAM.

Cool, it just threw me out a little bit because before I installed the driver it was showing as 256mb not 128mb. Think I`m in need of an upgrade then if GRAW is that bad on my system, only thing I don`t understand is that my spec was fine going off the info on the back of the box and the auto detect in the game options put most settings on medium but even after reducing them to low it was still unplayable! You live and learn eh!

Generely the minimum system requirements are a bare just the bare minimum... usualy not very playable. The fact that the card has turbocache already makes it not so great for gaming, because system memory is much slower than video memory.

You may actualy want to disable turbocache, the 6200 LE probably wont take advantage of 256 mb of memory anyway, so disabling it will give you back some system memory.

Whats your budget for the card? AGP or PCI Express? Also what are the rest of your system specs, in case your gonna have a system bottleneck.

My spec is

pentiun 4 3.06GHz
1 GB ram
Nvivia GEFORCE 6200 LE
Windows XP sp2 Media Centre
CD/DVD RW
19" Lcd monitor

Not sure where to find info on sound card.Is there anything else I should have listed???

I`d be prepared to spend about £150 on a new graphics card but is this enough for one decent enough to play GRAW without any problems?

Cheers for your help all,I`m fairly new to computers and this forum is a great help.

Sounds impressive enough but as I said I`m fairly new to computers so its new to me mate. Is it a good enough graphics card that when paired with my spec above will improve my gaming experience because at the moment my Ghost recon aw is unplayable, jerky as hell and slooooooooow.

Cheers

The 7800GT is a very, very good card. You'll be able to play GRAW on max settings or any game for that matter with no problems.

nevermind they are the same price now but the 7900gt has more clock speed, more memory clock and more pipelines.
