I have an old friend who has a Dell Inspiration desktop running Windows 7 and on the screen it says "power save mode" she says whatever button she hits on the keyboard it doens't respond and doesn't wake up. Also, she tried shutting it down by holding the power button and it's still doing the same thing any suggestions?

PS; she's a 100 miles away from my house so I would like to trouble shoot it over the phone. I was going to have her go into "power options" and make sure it set the computer is set to NEVER SLEEP same with the DISPLAY. Could this be a setting in the BIOS or just a windows configuration issue. All help is greatly appreciated.

if she has held the power button down until it shuts down and it still says it, then what she is reading is the monitors power saving feature. I would have to say that it sounds like its a problem with her graphics card possibly, or her integrated graphics on the motherboard. ask her to completely turn off the pc. then to start it. when it is started ask her if she sees the bios post, or if she hears any beeps from the pc. ask her if the "power saving" thing goes away at all when the pc is initialy started.

Thanks for the reply. I drove and got the Dell Inspiration 580s series desktop running Windows 7. The system looks brand new. I opened the case very clean. Anyways, I plug the power cord into the tower I see lights come on the motherboard but when I hit the power button to turn on the computer it doesn't respond it wont turn on. I opened the case and front of the case (checking for loose wires) none were present.

I don't know if it's a faulty motherboard or power supply. I don't have a motherboard tester or power supply tester here with me. The customer wants the issue fixed. The system is less than 3 years old. I asked the customer if any lighting strikes or anything like that he said no....then I asked him when was the last time he was able to get online and he said March he didn't tell me this yesterday... What do you guys think it is? Mobo, power supply, misconfiguration etc....all help is greatly appreciated

Have you tried resetting the cmos? Could either be bad power supply or motherboard.

I pulled out the CMOS battery waitied a few minutes placed it back and same thing. Like I said earlier I can get a light to come on the motherboard when I plug the power cable in however no fans kick on, no power comes on, nothing,,, I think it's a faulty mobo or power supply. Is there a way to determine whihc one without buying a power supply tester or motherboard tester? I cant get this system to do nothing...Do you think it's even worth fixing? if so, let me know

It's the power supply. If it was the motherboard the Dell button would flash amber or blue... but if you hit the power button to turn on the system and nothing responds then it's the power supply.
