help psu keeps blowing fuses

basically my psu keeps blowING fuses and then trips the main house fuse. what's going on I have tried different leads and different outlets. its the psu in my Sig and it was working fine last night, only thing tuat has changed is. the damp air in my room because I'm trying to dry my clothes. could this be the reason? will it work when it has dried out or is it time for new psu?
 
I think you posted this before maybe a week ago. You said you changed receptacles but, need to be on different circuit breaker. Bottom line, its a ground or short circuit somewhere. 15 or 20 amp should be easy to find problem with fluke or testers. Short or ground.

I don't mind helping but im a electrician. You might be better off getting someone with experience in this area. kicking breaker is not good. don't want no one hurt for doing something i said and no experience. Have a neighbor to help investigate with some experience.?

I have tried it on a different circuit the downstairs socket is on a different circuit and it steel trips the breaker and it wasn't me posted this problem before

Loss of power to house then coming back on will surge. Can be very dramatic with frig, electronics, tv, radio and computers. Do ya have a surge protector? My tower is fused internally. also protected by a Belkin.

Unplug your leads to your PC components then power up the PSU briefly, see if it trips the circuit breaker.
This will give you a rough idea.

Rough idea of what? A shorted component on the machine won't trip the mains breaker. Only a shorted cord or internal short in the power supply will trip the mains breaker; unless he's using an ancient AT machine, in which case the switch could cause issues, but his signature indicates not.
 
I have tried multiple cords and multiple sockets on different circuits same result, tried unpluging all cords and removing the GPU GTX 260 and then replacing it with a HD4670 to see if the GPU power requirments are causing it, still no change, still blows the fuse, but it did not trip the breaker this morning, think that may have been because there was no one else using the electric, the psu came from scout so hopefully still under warranty but I bought a new unit now, Antec TP NEW 650, but still would like to know what caused this, I feel that the unit may have been developing a fault for a while as when it was switched on you would hear a noticable, not loud, but noticble click when the switch was flicked and the power starts to flow i think may be now the over volt protection has kicked and psu has gone, nothing else has changed on the rig in a good while and nothing is oc'ed.
The plug is on a 5 amp fuse and has used that has been the same lead/fuse since feb.
Is 5 AMP fuse right? Am I under the assumption that there is a fuse inside the PSU that could be replaced?

An overloaded PSU can cause Main breakers to trip, depending on what is on the breaker circuit and overload can be caused by many factors such as too many components or failing components.... does not need a short to trip breaker at times.

So, you're talking about an overloaded mains circuit. Does the OP have all his mains outlet circuits running at capacity?
 
The circuit is not maxed out and it has been used on a separate circuit which is barley used at all.
I have confirmed it is the psu i reassembled my old computer and used the psu and it just blew the fuse, I then used another psu and it booted fine, get my new psu on monday morning, got to go out of my way to get it from the depot but I will get it.
 
Surprised a 5 amp was kicking breaker. Had to be a dead short. Other than that, then life is good. again........
