Help quietening my PC

I built my PC myself, but it is very noisy and i was wondering if there are any ways of quietening it.

I have a Athlon 64bit 3400+ processor using the HSF it came with, and the Radeon 9800 pro which has its own fan. I have 2 80mm Antec fans, one at the front one at the back, and another 80mm that was on the PC case which is on the side of the PC. The 2 80mm Antec fans where fairly cheap so maybe i should have bought a more expensive fan?

I have a 500W PSU, which is made by Ebuyer i think and again was fairly cheap. Im not sure if there is one the place that is making alot of noise or if its just it all together.

I know about water cooling but that seems very expensive and im a little cautious about having water in my PC case.

Is there something that would make my PC quiet? Would a new HS make much difference to the noise? Or am i just stuck with a noisy PC?

Thanks for any help.

What exactly is making the noise? Do you know for sure thats its the 80mm fans, ore the cpu fan? If you can isolate the sound and find out what it is, then you can tell us and we'll show you a good fan to be in its place.

I unplugged the 80mm fan on the case and turned on my PC and i could not notice a noise difference.

I did the same with the other 80mm fans and there it was a little quieter but not much.

I dont know how i can tell if it is the PSU or heatsink though.

Is there anyone else who has the Athlon 64bit 3400+ proccesor and uses the heatsink it came with who can tell me if it creates alot of noise?

Well i have an AMD Athlon64 3200+ socket 939 and the stock heatsink is very quiet, however my AMD Sempron 2800+ which is socket 754 is pretty loud.

Sorry for the double post, but i had a idea.

If i unplugged the PSU and then turned that on by its self would that be dangerous or damage it or anything? If it is possible to do it would tell me if it is the PSU making all the noise.

I read that the Artic Cooling Freezer 64 is good, are the ones you listed better?

Thanks for the list, to get a quiet PSU do i have to spend that much on one?

Well thats because i forgot to incoude it :) In either case, the Freezer64 has been updated to the Freezer64 Pro now :)

I can get that for £20 which seems a good price to me. So as long as that will reduce the noise and keep it cool i think i will go for that.

But the PSU's are out of my price range.

Thats a subjective question. My personal answer is -40C. A more human answer is "less than 60C"

It decent but its not nearly as good (in fact, a generation of tech older) than Antec's on TruePower II PSUs :) IMO most modern PSUs are gonna be quieter than the HDDs you've got so until you deal with the HDDs not much point IMO to silence the PSU

- Thermalright XP-90c [$66.99] + Panaflo92 L1A [27db, $11.99]
it has been said that the XP-90c is only slightly better than the original XP-90 and for only $58 he can get the SI-120 still very quiet, better cooling, and cheaper. Also, adding the Panaflo 120mm fan would provide excellent airflow for around 14.99 I think (cant get the price right now) I wouldn't recommend the XP-90c anyways because ~$80 seems a bit steep for a HS and fan.

What would be better, Antec TruePower II 430W at £50 or Antec TruePower 480W at £45?

Or is there something better for that price?

And if someone could tell me what kind of decibel would be quiet then that would be a huge help to me so i can continue looking for a PSU.
