hi guys. i would just like to thank anybody that can help me out with this problem. here it goes:

i recently re-installed windows on my computer. before i did though i went in and deleted the partition from both drive (dunno why i did that, i dont remember doing that before). i dont remember if i created a partion in the slave or not but when i go into windows finally i went into my computer to transfer some files onto my master drive but when i double click on the slave it asked me to reformat. now im not an expert but i think that means everything will be erased. i tried everything i know to see if i can get it to work but nothing i know works. a friend told me that the files might be there and that if i dont write anything onto that drive that they wont get deleted.

can anybody help me recover these files. there are very important school files, financial and personal. pls guys guide me in the right direction

When you deleted the partion or partitions on the second drive you wiped the files there. There is a slight chance that a data recovery tool could retrieve a portion of what was there originally. The need to repatition the second drive wasn't even needed for a reinstallation of Windows on the primary. With XP you would simply delete the current installation there and may not even have to delete that one.

http://www.recovermyfiles.com/ GetData is one software that may offer a so many day trial period where you may be able to recovery at least a portion of the files lost before a full purchase would be needed. There are also professional services that offer this type of means for businesses.

ya they usually take a long time to run, because it has to copy each bit from every sector...but they will work in most cases. but next time i suggest you backup your important information and data. just because u put it on a slave drive doesnt make it any safer than if it was on ur main drive (u dont have windows issues but thats not the point im going for). its still a hard drive and its bound to fail sometime...try backing up ur important stuff on a dvd or something...they have a pretty decent shelf life
