Help replacing nVidia ti4600

This might sound lame but I need a suggestion for a video card to replace my geforce4 ti4600. My computer was locking up and the monitor was all garbled. I reinstalled the OS (winxp pro) & as I was reinstalling drivers etc it became apparent that the ti4600 was the culprit. I uninstalled & reinstalled the driver but same problem. I disabled the card which worked for 3-4 years & the computer will work now. The monitor is still plugged into the card....how can it work if the card is disabled...? I'm assuming it's the hardware causing the problem since I've reinstalled the driver, is that a correct assumption? Any way the video sucks now & I need a video card. I think I'd like to avoid nVidea this time incase it's the driver. What is a comparable ATI card to the ti4600? I know we're getting in the way back machine here, it's an older Compaq, 2.0GHz Intel & 512mg. ram.
Thank you very much.

That's almost got to be an AGP... I seriously dout a Ti series would be plain PCI and I know they were out before PCI-Express...

Just pull the card out and replace with some other AGP card.(well, best to double check it is AGP, but I feel pretty sure it will be...) However, that PC's pretty old. It'd probably be best to just save up and get a new one. That processor would hold a newer GPU back.
