help requested for a typical RAM upgrade problem

i got compaq presario desktop model SR1330IL with
samsung 256mb ddr pc3200 cl3 400 mhz.
i tried to upgrade it using
hynix 1 gb ddr pc3200 cl3 400mhz.
the sys switches on, motherboard beeps, fans run but monitor doesnot wakes up from hibernation. i tried all combinations wrt single or double ram in different slots but no avail.
the sys runs only when i insert my old ram singly.
please helt me out !!
 
:/ motherboad beep obviously means a error and for this ram. Either ram is not compatible or ram slot is faulty? but you can't fix this. I think you will need to look around and find one that will definatley fit and look at review's etc or post on this forum a ram stick that will fit? People on here will help you and give you links to ram that will work. Also is this low or high density ram? and how old is this pc?
 
When you say the system beeps, is it one beep or a series of beeps. If its a series of beeps then its a memory issue, your new stick is most likely faulty. Try a different stick fo ram. Also, make sure its low density memory as HP's and compaq were very picky about what memory they liked as this is an old system.
 
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I doubt that your RAM is compatible. The speed is compatible, but if you have 2 slots and one is a 256, that's probably all the memory that either one will handle on that motherboard.

A 1 gig will probaby not work in a slot that was manufactured for 256 megs.

Check the manufacture (if they'll talke to you) to make sure, but I'm pretty sure that would be your problem.

You're wrong.
4 slots 1 gig each is what it is rated for.
 
Some systems simply don't like certain brands of RAM. At work we carry "CEON" branded RAM and it simply will not work in older Dell Dimension desktops.

Only thing I could suggest besides trying to exchange the RAM for some different branded/spec sticks would be checking if there's a bios update available for the board.
 
Am I bad. I was just assuming it was only 2 slots. Apparently my ignorance of the rating for this motherboard is showing.
