Help restarting my whole computer...

hey guys... sorry if this is in the wrong place but i was j/w if there was a way to basically take everything(files and all that) off my computer so i can remake it and reinstall everything because recently i think a virus got to my pc and ive tried fixing it with everything i have... so how would i do this? or is there a better safer way to do it with same effects?
 
well i put in the windows XP installation cd and idk where to click i looked for format but im sortof a nub at this soooo idk... or do i just reinstall it...

You need to go into your Bios when you start up(Delet hey or F2 sometimes it should tell you when starting up first or second screen that comes up) then in there set it to boot off of CD. NExt put your windows CD in the drive Save settings and restart in the bio.s(Normally F10 but it should tell you) then windows will start copying files, then it will come up with a screen for partitions. Delete the partition that is on there, Then create a new one.(This will earse ALL of your data, so back anything up first that you want to save) then tell it to have windows install to that. This will take some time, then after a bit it will restart and boot off of the harddrive to finish installation. After that you need to activate windows then you can go about installing video card drivers and all your programs again.

You need to burn all your stored files to CD or DVD before you do anything or else you will LOSE YOUR DATA!

i put the cd in and it tells me to put my product id in so i do but it saiys its invalid... idk wats going on......... and btw whats bios?
 
I would suggest not attmepting this untill you research comptuers just a little bit more, for your own sake. No offence, you just dont want to regret it later.
 
well do u guys know how to get thing friggen virus out of my computer? its these alerts that says i have a virus and sends like a million pop ups and basically forces me to download and buy there product.... btw its called Malware.........

I would first suggest downloading and running Spybot Search and Destroy, this should help catch some of whats on your computer, after that download HiJackThis and post a log in the secuirity section and we can help you clean out your PC.
 
is hijackthis free cuz i DL it and it says it needs winzip to run which costs 10 bucks...?
