Hi, so I'm pretty new to the Laptop Side of Computers and I have a question. I'm only 15, with no job and therefore have very little income. I NEED to run OS X or higher on my mom's old laptop that i have. I Am willing to buy the software off of apple if someone can tell me if this will work and step-by-step how I need to do it. Another problem is, that the monitor on my current laptop has around 40 lines going across the screen. I'm assuming these are DEAD pixels because i ran a program to fix stuck pixels for 2 days straight and it did nothing. Also, my mom had this in the shop twice due to over heating, she didn't have any problems with it after she purchased a cooling pad, but does anyone know any other tips to fix this?

Specs. on Laptop that I'm Using:
Toshiba Satellite (not sure on model it's about 5 years old haha)
Processor: 2.00 Ghz Intel Celeron (R)
256 (soon to be 512)mb of RAM
40 gb Hard-drive
DVD/CD-Rom Drive
A crappy LCD Screen i think it's 15 in.
I'm putting a new battery in this as well because the battery now only lasts about 20 minutes.

PLEASE HELP!:)

Oh, so there isn't a way for me to remove everything from my hard-drive including xp, and just buy a copy of Mac OS X Tiger and download it onto my hard-drive???

Not really.

It's not a computer designed for running Mac OS X.

You COULD run it, but it'd be slow, and, like they say, you'd need an emulator. You can pick up older Apple laptops for pretty damn cheap nowadays, if you don't need it for anything too labour intensive..

well, it needs to have OS X Tiger and fairly fast because i need to be able to run editing programs Ex. Final Cut , Final Cut Pro.

Ok, hell no, with an emulator I doubt that'd be able to run Final Cut Pro.

Those Intel core duo Macbooks look quite nice, and they'd run it...
But they're 1000 dollars (off the Apple site... can't be bothered to look around)

Got a few grand lying around? :p

Hmm i Think what i'm going to end up doing is going to a comp. shop and seeing if they can build me a laptop that runs os X Tiger natively and see if they can use ANY of the parts i have and then i can just pay the difference.

The only way you can run OSX well is through Apple hardware, i.e. an Apple computer, no computer shop can build you a laptop, unless they use apple parts, you can get a brand new mac mini (no monitor) for $600, and you could save more by going second hand from ebay

that would work if A. I had 600 dollars and B. if i wanted a desktop, I NEED a laptop not a desktop, but i'm not worried about it i've now decided to just wait a couple years..
