Help to build my first computer

I'm sure you've seen this thread pop up hundreds of times, but I would find it much easier to have personal help then to read through pages and pages of unhelpfullness...

My budget - £700 - £800 (£850 ish max)
If you can find me parts for less, then that would be great -
Excluding mouse + keyboard - I also have my old computer lying about, no monitor though, it still has everything inside, it was a packard bell something, pile of crap. Anything worth scavenging in there?

First things first, I know bugger all about computers, no idea what all these numbers and letters are, which doesn't help...

I would like a good gaming pc, not anything incredible but something powerful enough to cope with Battlefield 3 primarily.

Because I know nothing I thought this would a great place to come to get some help from people who know what they're talking about, without having to go to my shitty local computer shop and be forced into buying something.

If you could also state what shop/website the parts are from that would help too.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance :)
 
you won't be getting any high res on bf3 at that price since you need a monitor too, but you can still do pretty good, and the site to use is overclockers.co.uk
 
forgot the prices were this different, you'll be able to get pretty good settings i think, but we don't know the requirements yet so no guarentees.

Do you know how to put the pc together?
Will you overclock the machine?
That is a decent gaming machine

I don't highly recommend overclockers as they usually more expensive.
Check out ebuyer, dabs, aria, scan as well

i have read up and know the basics, but i will still follow video and written guides to put it togethe, ill have a look at other sites too, thanks
 
i've always seen links to overclockers here, and never heard of the others, but he knows his stuff so i'd check them, but don't forget there is a guide with pictures on this forum somewhere for how to build a computer.

i think im going to buy from them, i dropped them an email too to make sure the parts were ok. Ive seen the guide, its a good one and ill probably use it along with others

their price and choice of component are alright when you after pre-build machine.

But the other website I mention usually sell component cheaper overall.
