Help to find graphics/desktop publishing - software?

Hello everybody, I'm new here.

Can anyone recommend a good (Cheep or free) graphics/desktop publishing/picture edit

I’m not sure about the terminology here. I want to be able to do the following:

It should in part work similar to a program such as Microsoft’s Power point, in that is you should be able to combine text, pictures and drawings and other types of graphics. You should be able to create stylized text with various "special effects" like Microsoft’s WordArt. However as opposed to PowerPoint you should be able to save the finished result as an image (jpeg). This is very important. Using PowerPoint I need to first press “print screen” and paste it in “Paint” in order to save it as an image, and that is no good since the result turns out a bit blurry and unclear, and I can only get images with the same size as the screen, obviously.

Asking this same question before someone suggested “paint.net”, but having downloaded “Paint Shop Pro” I don’t find the features I requested. There are no “WordArt” – type feature as far as I can see. I appreciate the suggestion but please explain if I have misunderstood that suggestion.

Thanks in advance!

Paint.net is not Paint Shop Pro. However it is touted as photo editing software. There is a huge network of PDN users that can do amazing things with it. It has an extensive help section and also links to forums and tutorials. Check it out on youtube. Go to getpaint.net and download version 3.36. (you will need to have .net framework 3.0 or later installed to run it) I really like this program.

I have also heard that GIMP is a good photo editing program similar to PDN but I haven't used it.
