Help Upgrading CPU

My motherboard supports a P4 Processor up to 2.6GHZ\400FSB. I currently have a P4 @ 1.6GHZ installed. I've been looking online all day long trying to find a compatible 2.6GHZ\400FSB processor, but I keep running into 533FSB\800FSB Processors! So, What I was wondering was, would it be possible to use a 533FSB or 800FSB processor for a board intended for a 400FSB processor @ 2.6 GHZ? ....Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Dude, you're way outta date(no offense), let me guess that was an old Compaq PC. Update you're whole PC, Vista will soon be demanded, so what better time than now. I would suggest this if you want budget,

I would upgrade to this man, this is about the best update I can get you without blowing a budget that I don't know of.

You're not gonna find one of those man, I very seriously doubt and that won't work with the FSB of 400. You just need to upgrade.

You can't find what you're looking, it's obviously obsolete & outdated. Better to upgrade the whole system if you have enough budget.

have any of you considered that he might JUST want to upgrade his CPU?
look on Ebay.

But yeah, that is really outdated and you're best to just build or buy a new PC.

A P4 with "800mhz FSB" would certainly work on that motherboard. Only problem is it wont run at "800mhz". I put those in quotes cuz really it doesnt have an 800mhz FSB, its only 200mhz. And that 400mhz FSB is sadly only 100mhz. The 533mhz is 133mhz.

But another thing you must look at is the socket. Pretty much all P4s that are being sold now are LGA 775, and from the looks of your system your running 478. And 478 is past outdated, its becoming acient history.

It is indeed possible to run a faster processor on a slower board, however the processor will run slower then what it was intended to, your 800mhz processor will only run 400mhz.

So there would really be no advantage to upgrading the CPU on that board at all. The increase in performance would be close to nothing.

As suggested, a whole system overhaul would be much more worth the money then a new cpu.

Why would he just upgrade his processor? That's moranic, I would just upgrade the whole system. I mean he could update the CPU but that would go on down the road and actually become ancient history. He just needs to update his system now and try to balance budget and technology. The parts I left you earlier cost $250 and thats all. If you don't want/need a new hard drive you dont have to buy that, the drives if that's what you need fine keep them. Those older periphials should pose no problem. Now if you want to go ahead and upgrade to a new platform, give me a shout.

Maybe it was just a question, and he doesnt have the budget. $80 processor, VS $600 PC upgrade. You're also the moron for not being able to spell it. Lay off people.

Who r u talking to? I told him what I thought was best for him. And by the way the upgrade was $250. I have my opinion you have your's, I didn't see your suggestion.

Hes been given most avenues alreay. Just calling someones thoughts on upgrading moronic is an ass thing to do.

One more thing, this forum is NOT about knowing each other's budget limitations, it's about computer advice & suggestions. You seriously need to lighten up on the way you read people's replies. If you knew anything at all about the future, technology, and the economy you would more than likely agree with me in some way.

Im not disagreeing with your suggestions. You need to take some reading comprehension classes if you think im putting down your advice. THe issue I had was you calling his idea to upgrade a processor moronic. But that point was lost on you, so my point was proven I guess. Cheers.

Moranic means a decision or an action of a person with a IQ score of less than 80. Okay, it has become a very defined, sarcastic term used in place of ignorant or stupid. It sounds better, you need a vocabulary class. Ignorant simply comes from its root word, ignore, which means to pay no mind to a certain attribute.

Well, i wouldnt call it moronic. But i do think that upgrading his processor would not be worth it as there wouldnt be a noticible increase in performance, not even $80 worth.

Would you look up at the my previous reply? Moronic does not mean all that bad of a thing, it simply means ignorant. That's all, all I'm saying is this. If he overlooks the small aspects of upgrading, it could come back to bite him later. I simply stated this (in differing terms), "it would be dumb not to upgrade the rest of the system." A weathered machine shortly becomes yesterday's technology. I agree with dual corex2 100%, if he did upgrade the CPU he would not see a reasonable change.

that's what i was thinking. just like ram:) wasn't exactly sure though.

I need a vocab lesson? morAnic is not a word, nor does moronics definition involve an I.Q. (intelligence quotient) of 80. Quit guessing to prove points, you need facts.

Im going to appologise for calling you out on this as the argument is getting nowhere. Also, youre a moron. But thats not offensive.
