help upgrading current desktop

Hello everyone. I am new to the forum and need some help on upgrading my desktop computer. My desktop is a 5 year old Gateway E4000 series. I don't even think I can upgrade anything on this besides memory but that's why I'm here. I don't want or need a top of line computer, but I would like to do a lot more multitasking, be able to watch high def movies, and other everyday stuff.

My budget would be only a few hundred dollar, $400 absolute max. Is this computer worth upgrading or should I just wait and build a custom desktop when I have more money to spend? There is nothing wrong with it, it runs fine for being 5 yrs old, but I just need more performance out of it. I attached my computer info which I got from CPU-Z. The graphics card is an Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller. Let me know if any other info is needed.

Thank You!

For another $100 you can build a decent system. Save your money and build a new one.

upgrade the computer

As you have told that your computer is 5 yrs old . i would suggest you to go for new one rather than upgrading the old one .

I agree, and would not put any money into an old system.

You can build a decent system, low line for most games, with
a 2.8Ghz Intel Core2 Duo, with 4Gigs of DDR2 800, Nvidia 8400GS,
for $400.00 shipped.

You could do an AMD X2 dual core system for even cheaper.

For building your own system I would suggest the two following components:

GIGABYTE GA-MA770-UD3 motherboard
Phenom 8650 processor

Both of these components total about $160 at NewEgg.com.

As others have already stated, $500 should get you a good system.
