I just got a pc(emachine D5039) that was not working...no power. i purchased a power supply going up from 480 to 550 watts. Also i installed a new hard drive and have a 512 and 1gig ram stick in the PC. pc worked and installed a fresh copy of window xp prof. everything worked well installed well however i have a problem none of my usb ports work. when i plug somthing in nothing happens...no error no nothing. the device does power but nothing appears on pc. the only thing is under the usb part of the device manager with absolutly nothing plugged in in the right above the usb hub portion i get an unknow device message with no driver. Please any help will be greatly apperciated.

You probably just need to update your drivers for your USB device manager. Try running Windows Update and see what's on the Optional. Otherwise, if you know the brand and type you could probably get all the necessary drivers from eMachine's website. Some places make you register the computer, others don't. I would say this would be the problem unless there's a hardware issue not listed above. Try this and make sure you restart every time it tells you to. Do not just save all the restarting for the end if it prompts you to do so, then do so.

Edit: Bodaggit got me by like 1.5 seconds, I swear.

I did that already as far as drivers and win update. someone told me it could be a power issue...sorry if this is a novice issue but im a newbie

I doubt that power isn't making it to that specific section or control of the motherboard. It doesn't seem as likely. All the driver's are updated?

Try uninstalling the USB ports in Device Manager by right clicking on them and picking uninstall. Reboot and let windows reinstall them and see if that helps. Drivers could be corrupt.
