help! USB ports not working [Pic]

Every usb port on the computer was working fine until I plugged in my ipod a few days ago and it started giving me the 'usb devices not recognized' message on it when i plugged it in. I've tried plugging the ipod in to every usb port excluding the ones occupied by the mouse, keyboard, and printer, and it still gives the same message. It worked ONE time, but then stopped immediately after. So basically, it acknowledges that the ipod is plugged in, but nothing else. Also, I tried plugging in my mouse to a different USB port and it gave the same error message, so I'm sure it's not just my ipod. Here's a picture:

I also tried system restoring to an earlier date, and the problem still persists...I know you'll suggest flashing my bios but I can't seem to figure out how, even with the .rom file and the asus utility for the Asus P4p800 se.

 I don't know why anyone would suggest flashing your BIOS; Your USB worked until recently, and BIOS flashing is pretty much a last resort, where a functionality has never worked, and after all else has failed to get it to work.

Now, I would first look in Device Manager and see if there are any warnings or trouble icons, notably on your Universal Serial Bus Controller. (To open Device Manager in Vista, click on Start Menu and in the search box type devmgmt.msc)

If there is an issue noted, try reinstalling the USB drivers for your motherboard.

Often an easy fix is to reboot with the iPod (or other USB device) attached. See if it is recognized. Then unplug it and plug it back in. Does Windows now load it properly?

=(
I tried that, still no luck.
And in device manager, I unplugged and replugged the printer and it gives another 'Unknown Device'. So there are now 2 of them.

EDIT: I should also mention that the ipod turns on as soon as I plug it in, vista installs 'unknown device driver', and then nothing. The ipod doesn't even charge, and I checked the front usb mobo connections, and the back ones should work anyways.

>_>, I can't seem to find standalone ipod drivers, and it was working a few days ago with itunes. Another thing that leads me to believe it's my motherboard is that the printer doesn't work anymore either.

when i search for my motherboard drivers, all I come up with is this bios...Also, how did it just randomly stop working one day?!

yes the two in the front, but my point being that the only usb devices that work are my mouse and keyboard, no matter where i plug in the camera, printer, or ipod...

kk then it sound like its not the motherboard don't know

>_> no...everything was working fine a few days ago, then suddenly my printer and ipod stopped working on any usb ports.

=(
i've tried that...sorry for all the posts, but I'm really desperate to get my usb ports working again, and google hasn't revealed anything but This thread in which the guy has the SAME problem and SAME motherboard, but paid registration is required.

sorry for the double post but here's an update. When booting, the ipod shows the blinking 'do not disconnect' sign and the bios sees it as a boot option if i hold down f8. The ipod's screen immediately goes back to normal and it doesn't show that it's charging as soon as vista begins to boot. I've reinstalled iTunes and my printer driver and I'm sure that this is an os problem that sees all usb devices as 'unknown devices'. If someone could simply point me in the direction of a fix, it would be much appreciated.

the time of them stopping working, it doesnt have any correlation to, say, a storm or a lightning strike nearby, a power cut or surge, anything like that?

I live in the san fernando valley, (near LA), US....it's just been really hot.

Oh and for what you're suggesting, I shut off the power supply for a few hours, then turned it back on and still nothing.

mgiht i suggest nto leaving your ipod in during boot up last time i did that it formatted itself and was no longer recognisable... does it work with other usb ports on a different machine? try with printer and ipod see if its definatley USB ports and not some werird error
