Help, which is best?

Hey all

I have been thinking of building my own computer for a while now, mainly for gaming.
Initially I was planning on getting a GigaByte Intel motherboard, and was told by a friend that AMD mobos are better for gaming.
So now its been a see-saw on which type to choose, though I am tending to lean still toward the Intel version.
It would be awesome if anyone could give the rundown on which would work better.

Any other reccomendations on other hardware such as CPUs or Memory is also welcome.

Thanks all

Gigabyte motherboards are one of the best brands actually. And as for the epic Intel vs. AMD debate, Intel tops AMD in just about every aspect nowadays, especially with their newer 45nm technology. Get one thing straight though, gaming isn't dependent on the motherboard. Maybe your friend is just associating gaming MBs with the fact that a AMD motherboard will go along with an AMD CPU, because the CPU and GPU are what makes a gaming rig special.

A great MB for your $200 budget would be a P35 chipset (assuming you do not plan to run SLI - two video cards) Gigabyte such as this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128082 or even on of the cheaper P35 chipsets.

Good memory brands are Corsair, OCZ, Gskill, etc.
The debate on the best GPU brand is another large debate, but Nvidia usually tops ATI in benchmarks.
Good PSUs include brands such as Antec(hands down the best), PC Power and Cooling, OCZ, Corsair, etc.
HDDs include Western Digital and Seagate, they are some of the best.

Good luck, and if you have anymore questions feel free to ask, someone will help you.

Thanks HEAPS!!

Is the GB GA-EP45-DS3R any good either do you know? It's the one i was planning on getting prior to the great debacle lol.

Well as far as I know I think the P45 has a faster FSB clock speed and is compatible with faster RAM so you may want to look at those MBs too.

MSI and ASUS are good MB brands too, check those out as well. You have to be careful with ASUS though, they can be picky with RAM. Good luck.

yeah AMD used to best, its better than a pentium D but not the new intel core2s

the core2 is the best chip on the market atm
