Help win32k.sys error

I got a Dell windows xp desktop and a blue screen with a win32k.sys error came up. Here is what it says sorry its so long.



A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen restart your computer. If this screen apprears again, folllow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for the driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

I cant do anything because I cant get into the desktop. Ive tried going into the safe mode, but it just comes right back up to the error. Ive tried to restart but it dont.

Any ideas?

apparently you've shut down your computer before by just holding the button and got unlucky with file corruption. umm its been a while since i've error handled xp but i believe you can boot a xp disk and see what kind of utilities are on there. else, if your computer can run vista, try getting a copy of that and just upgrading. that might fix it.

I'd say it's more likely that you have a faulty RAM module. If possible try running memtest or borrowing some RAM to swap in to see if it works.
