HELP!!! Windows Vista automatically organizes my folders!

So here's the deal...

I have hundreds of docs in a folder and I need to get those docs onto a cd without vista automatically alphabetizing them. I'm making a book and I need to give the publisher the pages in the right order, but every time I move the files anywhere vista automatically alphabetizes them.

I don't want to go through all of them and rename them--

Please help...

SHORT VERSION: I need to get my files on to a dvd-r without vista automatically alphabetizing them.

I don't know how to turn off folder organization, nor do I think I would want to.

I think maybe this one could be chalked up to lack of planning on your part. :o

The OS does it as a courtesy.

Why would you not want your data sorted?

Not the OS's fault you don't name your files...

If you took the time initially to name your files something relevant,
all you do is type into the Search bar, and the file shows up instantly
in Vista and Win 7.

I name my files. I just liked how I sorted all my files in win xp. I knew exactly where my folders where. Then came vista and win7 and I cant manually sort my folders.

Ummm. Click on an open space in my computer, click 'sort by', then go down and click on "more" then uncheck any boxes that are checked then press OK. That should fix the problem :P

What do you mean "Click on an open space in my computer"?

Inside a folder? Right Click?

here's the solution, hope it works

Ok I see your problem, but your problem is unique, lol. Vista introduced "shorting" function to oraganize our files in specific order.

If you don't want Visa to organize your files then there seems to be no solution. But hey! what you can do is name put numerics like 1,2,3,4,5...so on (depending upon number of files) infront of your filenames. For example there are 2 files: cat.doc and dog.doc If you want dog.doc to come at first then you can rename like this 1 dog.doc and 2 cat.doc Then sort them by name.
Thus, "sorting by name" won't trouble you, lol. I hope it will help you.

cheers,
xhunter.

weeelll. He kinda said that he didn't want to do that because there's a lot of files written up already. :|

I would like to know a solution to this issue as well. I has very happy being able to CHOOSE whether windows organized my folders or not, with every new version of windows I feel more and more limited. I find this automatic folder sort more annoying than anything. I'm having to make folders FOR my folders to keep them organized by MY standards. I'm still struggling wth not having a "up one level" button, instead I have to stare at the "stupid" address bar in windows explorer. And by "stupid" I mean it's not the actual address (C:/Windows/System32/Tasks/) instead it's those arrows, and when you try and click in the bar to see the address, you end up bringing a menu down AAARRGGHH!!

So basically, my solution is this; you have your folder where all your reports are, then make a folder for each set of files you would like seperated.

Or in your case, open the files in the order you want them in, and save each one in the same order, then "Sort By Date Modified". That's the best idea I got for you.

EDIT: Another thing you can do is move the files to the desktop! You can sort on the desktop!

Bodaggit23, I don't think you're a dumb ass ;) and the majority of the forum members don't think so also. Just someone that clearly has a mental problem to register on a forum and say stupid stuff like that.

Yeah, Bodaggit23 is very intelligent. He knows his way around a computer quite well.
Bodaggit23 is simply pointing out mistakes/ the obvious. He's not trying to be mean or anything.
