eek: Hi all! Well, here I am with this huge problem, mistake, etc.
What happened was that I think my pc was infected with a virus, it would not let me get into the internet from my desktop. No matter what I would click on, it would block it and say" you are infected, etc, etc." It would tell me to run the program, then found tons of viruses, or problems, then if I wanted them cleaned, I had to buy the program.

I used the norton disk, and for about maybe half hr., I was able to get in to the internet, then when I signed out and returned later, the desktop was the same again and this time, I could not make anything work. My son said, most probably it was imbeddedin the registry files, so it activated itself again once I signed off and restarted.

Soooo.....I got desperate and I used a rescue disk. And what happens?

Windows xp is erased. It tells me that" Windows 32/dll/ something is missing.

How, if at all, can I restore windows xp, I can't find a disk. I had a Dell that I bought like 8 yrs ago, and if I'm not mistaken it had windows 98, and I know that I had windows xp on the dell when it crashed, so I'm wondering how did I get it, was it a download maybe?

I can't find a disk, I've looked everywhere.

The computer I have right now is a built computer that I bought from a friend, and it had windows xp on it already, but I know that I had windows xp on the dell. So, I'm wondering how or where did I get windows xp from? At that time (with the Dell?)

I know I sound incoherent but I am not a computer geek, I use my desktop a lot, but I'm not a technician.

Help! :( Thanks in advance.

do you have the product number? or windows xp sticker on the case?

if you have the product code you can clone someone elses disk and use your code, as long as its the same

i.e-windows xp pro service pack 1...

if you dont have the product code you have nothing really, you will have to purchase a new disk

I inserted the recovery disk again, and I cAN see all my files, etc, I can the Windows. I have reinstalled and copied them in the program disk but how do I get it out of there. It says its copying, but I have searched and searched, and I don't see where I can restore it to the PC. From the programI see anywhere or anything from where it will restore everything. How does the recovery disk work? It's called System Suite Professional 8.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks!

if the system suite is the recovery disc, pop it in before windows boots (if it does boot no worry, just restart the computer). Run repair on the disc and it should repair the .dll files. If it just boots straight into windows it aint the recovery disc

if that is the situation, what you need is a disc of the same OS that you have, so an XP disc you say. From that, put the disc into the system, again, before the OS boots, and then it should come up with the XP install. There is an option to repair XP, choose this, it will scan the hard drive you choose and fix the errors on it.

If you don't have it then you have 2 options.

1) find someone with the same operating system as you have on your computer on disc, so if it is XP SP2 hom edition, that is what you need.

2) download XP but bear this in mind: there are some problems with that, if you use the wrong version, the version you didn't buy, then it is potentially illegal. If you use a torrent there is a risk of getting viruses too, but only if you don't scan what comes in.

If, as your son says, it is in the registry, then go on a computer with the internet and download ccleaner which is free. That has a registry cleaner and fix in it that may potentially salvage your system
