Help with a belkin router security...

So, I tried doing a search for my problem but I don't even know if I am searching for the wrong thing so please disregard my ignorance when it comes to this. here goes, I have a belkin wireless router G+ MIMO and I have it setup and it works just fine but the problem occurs when I try to set up the security of it. If I keep it plugged in via an ethernet cable there is no problems but then that defeats the purpose of wireless now doesn't it? If I get rid of any security feature and unplug it everything is fine but then, obviously, anyone can use my internet. I tried calling belkin support but my native language is English so I had some problems understanding them so that was no help. The problem occurs that I don't know which setting to turn on since it's all greek to me. WPA, TKIP, AES...R2D2? I went to microsofts website and they say something about needing a download to make one of the settings work but the odwnload is only for XP and I have Vista 32bit. So, thats my problem in a nutshell. Any help would be appreciated.
 
Ok lets see.

So when you enable security on the router, you cant connect is that right? Can you connect to your wireless network and have no internet access? or just not connect full stop?

What kind of security have you tried to enable? and what is your wireless card?
 
Work has kept me away for a bit so sorry bout the long wait on the reply. My wireless card is a Belkin G plus desktop card. As for the security I tried, I tried WPS-PSK (no server). The others on there are, 128bit WEP, 64bit WEP and WPA (with radius server). Now for the complications... If I don't have the security enabled then I can connect through wireless means without a problem but as soon as I activate security I get nada. Can't even see my belkin router on the choice of networks. I don't know if I purchased the wrong router or not since it didn't say anything on the box about having to always have a computer hooked up to it but the instructions show that I do. I don't get why this is such an intense process just to go wireless. Figured it should have just been plug and play... Thanks in advance!
 
whatever ur wirel;ess card type security it has, u need to use that security mode on ur router. and make sure ur transmitting G
 
I don't mean to sound like an idiot but how would one go about finding out the type of security the wireless card is using? I haven't set up any security for my card in the past when dealing with wireless routers. I do, however, know it's transmitting G since it's a G+ card.
