Help with A7N8X and 2800+

First of all, when I first got this motherboard I had to manually set the CPU external frequency to 166 MHz just for it to realize that I had an AMD Athlon XP 2800+. After that it worked fine. Recently for no reason at all it failed POST and gave me the error "System failed due to CPU overclocking". I had to set it down to an external frequency 100 MHz just to get it to get past POST. I can set the CPU ext. freq. to 133 MHz (same as Athlon XP 2200+) if I only have one if I only have one of my 512 MB DDR memory modules installed. If I have all 3 installed it locks up during POST. I can set the ext. freq. to 166 MHz if I set the BIOS not to halt on errors. But then it either doesn't recognize all my RAM or I can't even get into windows. I an error saying my registry is corrupt. I've tried everything (clearing CMOS, every RAM and CPU external frequency, and upgrading the BIOS ) and nothing has worked. Basically I can either run at 1.24 GHz with 1.5 GB of RAM or at the speed of a 2200+ and only have 512 MB of RAM when I should be running at 2800+ with 1.5 GB of RAM like I used to! Please help. Thanks.

1. Are you sure you have the 2800? How about what type of memory?
2. Check for a BIOS update
3. That being said, reset the BIOS defaults, set the CPU speed to automatic (and if that doesnt work, set it to the correct speed). Then enable the extended memory test (or equivalently, disable quick boot) and check one stick of memory at a time
4. If the individual mem stick work, put them both in together (without using dual channel and if that works move to dual channel). If you encounter problems, try configuring the memory to work off a separate clock.

A couple things to note:
- Mixing single sided and double sided memory may not work so well
- You can try adding a bit of voltage to the Vdimm

Yes, I'm sure I have a 2800+. I've been using it for over a year with no problems (until now). My BIOS is up-to-date. My memory is good and it's all identical double-sided. Still nothing works.
