Help with an XP hack

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone could help me either change a setting I'm not aware of, or do a registry hack to customize certain features of my task bar.

I keep it hidden because I don't like it on the screen, and I use the program "start killer" to get rid of the start button while keeping its functionality with the windows key on my keyboard (or ctrl+esc). What I want to change is how when you move the mouse to the edge of the screen where the task bar is hidden, it pops up - I want it to only pop up when I hit the windows key or ctrl+esc.

This is an annoying feature because it pops up when I don't want it to.

thanks,

As dmaksimov already said its highly unlikely that you could do that and programmers won't be able to help you either because what you're talking about would likely require modifying the code of Windows itself, and clearly you can't do that as its not open source, otherwise everyone would have their own versions of Windows

umm.... this might seem really simple and probably isn't what you're looking for but i'll give it a shot anyways. couldn't u just shrink it down as far as it'll go so that it doesn't pop up? i mean, if u do that a little blue line will show up at the bottom of the screen if u move the mouse down there but unless you're that picky that shouldn't matter.

Very good. This works well. Thanks a lot! It solves my problem.

By the way, I talked to a programming friend of mine who informed me that the windows code is not that hard to modify with the right tools, and that a hack like this really isn't that hard.

thanks for the help run4it!

Just for future reference, editing windows is not hard at all. All you have to do is search download.com for a hex editor (I use hex workshop) and then open up explorer.exe in there. Make sure you don't change anything though without knowing what you're doing, or you'll mess explorer up.
