Mainly with my hard drives
should i get one big one or two smaller ones.

Sure. It's best to have Windows on a small a possible drive/partition for defragmenting and other reasons. So you could buy a, say, 1Tb drive and partition approx. 50Gb for windows, and the rest for storage (even different partitions for work, media, etc), or you could have a 40 or 60Gb boot drive and a 500Gb-1Tb second drive. mainly your choice, but i recommend 2 different drives in the case of hard drive failure.

Yeah, the HD4870 are great cards, and you'll be able to easily go into 2x CrossFireX later on, if your motherboard supports it.
