Help with cpu upgrade

I have an HP Pavillion DV6701 that had an Intel T2330 in it and I upgraded to an Intel T7500. Didn't have any problems getting it in (i've never torn down a computer that far and it was kinda fun) but when I try and power it up it sounds like it will boot up but shuts off in 1 to 2 sec. In case someone is wondering I did check the service manual and the T7500 is recommended for this model and I know it's an old computer. I'm giving it to a son in college and he'll dedicate it to running one pc. of software.
Since reassembling the laptop I've taken out and reinstalled the hard drive,ram and network card and that didn't do it.

Overheating most likely. Basically with a laptop you are stuck with the processor thats in it. Without adding cooling to support the better processors it will just overheat and shut down.
 
John I talked to the company I bought the CPU from and he said the same thing. It can overheat in an instant. He also told me to check that the heat sink is on flat and update the bios since the FSB is different. Just saw you are from Morris. I'm not to far from you in Algonquin.

Yeah, it can overheat in a matter of a couple seconds without the proper cooling. Did you use thermal paste between cpu and heatsink?
 
I cleaned the surfaces with alcohol and used the thermal paste. John in a previous post you said your pretty much stuck with the original CPU. Did you mean the ones soldered to the mother board or in your experience what i'm trying to do doesn't work to well ?
 
Sorry for the late reply. But again, you are basically stuck with what you got. It all comes down to the cooling. Some laptops can be upgraded but unless it already has good cooling in it, it won't be able to handle the upgrade. Thats why you really need to do your homework before buying a laptop, make sure it has what you want.
