Help With D.O.S Game Running Slow

Hi , Iv'e got a prob , i re-installed a old DOS game which i dug up in my "floppies" ... Star Control 1 ... i installed it ( AMD 2400xp & XP Pro ) , but the game runs slow , Can any1 give me any advice or tips to speeding up the game ? Everything that I've tried dont work , the game runs slow and the music is also slow , and i luv Starcon , ... i wont install starcon 2 till i can get 1 to run at full speed ...

Plz any1 , can you help ?

yeah... find some kind of boot disk (ed2k link: ed2k://|file|Techie'z.Toolkit.iso.(93-Bootable-Apps).[L!oNetwork.Net].rar|363184219|6E9EFAE3A247E96E79C2A50676F330B5|/)
and start your computer with a dos version (not win98 boot dos disk or something like taht) and run the game from there
