Help with graphic card types

I was looking to upgrade my ATI Radeon 4670 that i currently have installed in my machine, but I'm looking at all the different types of graphics cards and have no idea what to look for. Apparently the GTX series is pretty good. I'm not looking to spend more than 350 australian dollars on a card though. Any help?

Edit:
Is the 4890 up to the specs of the GTX series?

That page is awesome, thanks man, it's exactly what i needed. Another question though, can the 4890 run crysis with everything on high?

I read of people on different forums with a lot more powerful systems than mine who can't max out Crysis, though I don't know. I've run the demo and mine runs it fine a lower resolutions, but the fans on my graphics cards sure start singing. Never tried to run it a max. Hmmm might give it a try and see what happens. I think there's a benchmark built in to it somewhere.

Depends on the settings, but the 4890's performance is around that of the GTX275, and once overclocked can come close to the GTX285.

I would recommend the GTS 250 or GTX 260. the GTS 250 is probably about 10% faster than a 9800GTX+, then again the higher GTX series beats both of them. depends on your budget.

Will the GTX still go into my MOBO, Asus M4A79T deluxe? It seems the places i go to get my parts, that the 4890 is a significant amount cheaper than the gtx260

Go with the 4890 then, the 4890 is far superior to the gtx260, better than the gtx260 core 216, and similar to the gtx275. Plus, if im not mistaken doesnt your motherboard support crossfire? If so ati card would definately be to your advantage.

looks like i know crap all about graphics cards these days... I'll just OC my GTS 250 then it will beat 9800GTX+ for sure.

@topic: Go for a 4890X2 if you can afford it, even a used one if its in good condition.

Pretty cheap on Ebay. Bit scepticle about buying computer bits of ebay though, i don't want to be one of these suckers who gets scammed.

ATi hasnt released a 4890x2, you're probably thinking of a 4870x2

I thought they had the same clocks too?

People wil see a factory overclocked GTS 250 and think its a different and faster card then the 9800GTX+ when they made overclocked 9800GTX+ too. Even the later 9800GTX+ has the shorter PCB and only one PCIe connector. The GTS 250 is just a flashed 9800GTX+. Nvidia is famous for just changing the name of cards to make them sound like a new card.

Yes, another example would be rebranding the 8800GT as the 9800GT and they almost rebranded it again as a GTS 240

I think the 9600GSO (G92 not G94) is an 8800GS also

I dont think ATi has rebranded old stock like that?
