Ok i took apart my hp g61-511wm laptop to replace my dc jack and now that its all back together i turn it on and the screen stays black the buttons light up and you can hear the computer power up but the screen does nothing what could be wrong?
I would suggest you take it apart as far as you went and make sure everything looks connected, particularly connections to the screen. Double-check that the jack is correctly connected.
You could make sure the graphics are still working by connecting an external monitor if you have one handy.
did you remove the RAM at any point?? Does the CAPS lock and NUM lock light flash at all? This is the error codes for the G60 series laptops.
Check the ribbon cable to the LCD (has to be disassembled). the connection to the LCD on the G61 is at the top right hand side of the motherboard. The cable plug is about 1.5 to 2 inches wide. This could be double checked with an external VGA monitor (the G61 will not boot from HDMI. Dont know why but it doesnt work.)
