Help with my toshiba

I have a Toshiba Satellite and the drive disk is messed up so I replaced it with a new one. I was told by the tech at the local electronic store that if I installed the new drive and used the recovery disk to install on to that drive it would work. But I did and it successfully installed, but won't start up a problem startup pop up appeared and it says I don't have an OS.

I thought the recovery disk would install the windows 7 OS onto it along with the toshiba drivers and such?

My question is what do I need? Do I need to install a brand new version of windows 7 onto it? IDK what to do.
Thanks for any help.

put the recovery disk back in and boot from disk, did you already go through the os install? You may have to do it again

I have not installed any OS, I assumed that the recovery disk from toshiba would do that along with reinstalling the drivers.

Am I suppose to install a fresh version of windows 7 first before installing the recovery disk?

the recovery disk should have removed the operating system from the computer as it was, try to boot from the disk and it should run you into the Windows 7 OS install, you'll get a screen that looks like this:

Windows7-2008-11-04-14-54-23.jpg

Sorry, I'm a little slow at this.
So I do need to buy a version of windows 7 to get the new drive to work?

No, the recovery cd should be installing the OS, apps and drivers for you automatically once the process has started. Does the bios recognize the hard drive? How old is this laptop? Make sure that ahci is enabled in the bios or the recovery cd process won't work correctly.

If you go into the bios, it should list the detected hardware on the first page. You would have to look through the other settings to find one that says sata controller to see if its says IDE/compatibility or AHCI.

what he said ^ getting into BIOS can be done useing F12 or F2, I think F2 on your computer, it varies sometimes with each computer

Well I enabled it to AHCI and restarted it up with the recovery disk. I am prompted to either choose recovery wizard and system recovery options.
I had already tried the recovery wizard when I first got the drive.

Should I reinstall the recovery wizard?
