Help with new computer suggestions :)

hello there.
i am sure you must get sick of these, so for your sake i will try to be brief.

ok, heres the deal:
for graduation my parents are getting me a new computer.
I have ~1500$ USD to spend. (im sure they wouldnt mind spending less, but i want a comp that will last me through college ~4years)

What I need:
a computer for some video editing / pictures / music / internet. and potentially playing games (world of warcraft is about the extent of my pc gaming though.)

also, how would an apple computer be, i know it comes standard with some video / picture things that seem nice.

i sincerely thank you in advance for your help.
