Help With New Hard Drive

Hello,
I have an HP Elite e9120y with a 1TB 5200 rpm hard drive that windows vista by default was installed on. I recently purchased a 300GB 10000 rpm hard drive that i have already installed. I want to put my windows vista operating system on my new hard drive but this computer did not come with the vista install disk. I am asking if there is any way around this to maybe copy all the files over to my new 10000 rpm hard drive.
Thank you for reading and hopefully solutions will arise,

hmm, so do i clone the whole disk or just the shadow copy services, because i have tried to clone already with DriveImage XML. I choose Drive to Drive Clone, the source drive is the one with vista on it (the 1TB drive), And the drive i choose to clone to is my new one (the 300GB drive). and before it starts, it gives me an error message that says "Target partition must be at least the size of the original source drive" so its unable to clone.

Is there only 1 partition on the 1tb drive? If there is more than one, hopefully you have the os on a partition that is smaller than 300gb, just clone partitions and not the whole drive.

Yeah there is only one partition and its the whole 1tb. does that mean it wont go over to the 300? is there some way to fix this?

How much existing data do you have on the 1tb drive? It's possible use 3rd party software to resize partitions such as partition magic. I would offload all your data that you would need backed up onto a separate drive and then use partition magic to resize that partition on the 1tb drive to less than say 250gb and then you could clone it to the smaller drive.

well thats cool, my 1TB hard drive only has about 250GB on it anyways, so you're saying i should get partition magic, put that 250GB on one partition, then use driveimage xml to copy the partition onto my 300GB hard drive? Will i be able to boot vista off of that hard drive after i do that or are there some settings i will have to tweak?

Most likely you have a recovery partition on the 1tb drive. If I were you I would enlist the help of someone that knows about partitioning software so you could clone the recovery partition as well to your new drive. But to answer your question, if you clone your existing drive to the smaller one then it should bootup no problem. But if you don't know what you are doing, it could get screwed up. I have used partition magic a couple times and thats it, not enough to really help you out.
