Hi,
I am currently getting ready to update my desktop, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice. The primary use will be for high quality music production. I have a good sound card in mind, but I'm not sure what will be best for a CPU and MOBO. The programs I use are sonar and fruity loops.
-thanks!

I'm trying not to consider money an issue even though it is, so no. I'd be willing to invest in the right hardware. The MOBO is the thing that I'm the most unsure about.

Are you going to be doing audio encoding? If so definetly get an intel chip. Do you have even a rough budget in mind? That will help us alot.

it could be anywhere from like $250 to like $700, just pulling those out of my head but that's probably about right, if you want to start looking, I'd say look first at presler cores, then probably smithfield cores

thanks, I'll check that out. Also, with say an intel P4 2.8GHz, will I be able to overclock with one of those MOBO's? How do I find out what MOBO's are supported by which processors?

basically the only things you need to look at are socket type and chipset. For intels, you're going to be hard pressed to find anything that's not an lga775 chipset, but if you want to run a dual core cpu, you need to get a 945 chipset or higher, and as far as overclocking, most motherboards you'd buy from like newegg for instance will overclock, just read the reviews and half will say something like "good oc'er"
